I am happy to share a new policy we in the building have been working towards simplifying the review process in area where we can. This is modeled for production style building for residential dwellings in accordance with the International Residential Codes (IRC) the idea is to speed up the review process once a development has met a level concurrent review. An side effect is a small cost saving on review fees as well. We are still working thru some of the processes to fine tune the overall policy, so it’s not perfect yet but the goal is to get a speedy and smooth submittal, review and permit process. Currently the MBPR is tied to a specific developments or subdivisions for the time being. Once the City feels that things are running good and conformable, we will look at the possibility of modifying it to be City wide.

A little history into how we developed this new MBPR, I search out other policies in multiple jurisdiction across the west coast, taking ideas that I felt would fit both the Building requirements and the community’s needs. Compiling them into the Policy we have now. I wanted a very simple and clear approach, looking at our current process and working to reduce redundant oversight. Naturally speeding up the permit process, yet still meeting the building code for fire, life and safety that is mandated by the State and adopted codes.

I appreciate the opportunity to share this small but exciting policy and I look forward to continued collaboration in getting Building related information to the community of Bozeman. It is important to me from an educational view and to partner providing building fire, life and safety requirements needed in this fast pace environment.
